Widgets, what “adherence neutral” means, and new custom food workflow in progress

New and Noteworthy

Feature: Widgets

Earlier this month, we delivered the No. 1 most requested feature on the roadmap – home screen widgets – and they are now available in MacroFactor on Android and iOS!

With MacroFactor widgets, you will be able to view details about any nutrient you can track in MacroFactor directly on your Home Screen and navigate to your favorite workflows with one tap.

These widgets are configurable, customizable, and optimized for their respective platforms, so you can build the home screen experience that matches your device and your unique style.

To get a full rundown of all the new widgets and learn how to set them up, check out MF co-founder and developer Rebecca’s article about the new feature set here: Experience MacroFactor Directly from Your Home Screen with Widgets

Article: What Do We Mean When We Call MacroFactor “Adherence Neutral”?

We sometimes refer to MacroFactor as an “adherence neutral” app, and you might be wondering what we mean when we use that term.

This new article by MF co-founder Greg covers the topic as directly as possible, and discusses why we have an adherence-neutral philosophy.

We think this is a pretty important article, because adherence neutrality can be a pretty unintuitive concept – dietary adherence is obviously important for reaching your goals, so wouldn’t it make sense to try to enforce a high level of dietary adherence to help people reach their goals? Most often than not, no.

Case Study: How Bárbara Used MacroFactor to Gain Strength and Build a More Muscular Physique

Bárbara Martins, a 32-year-old personal trainer and nutrition coach, started lifting weights more than a decade ago, but has always struggled with gaining weight and building muscle.

“My main goal with lifting, since day one, has been to get stronger and put on muscle,” she said.

A little over a year ago, she found herself at one of her lowest weights ever. At that point, she said she was ready to buckle down and get to work in the gym and in the kitchen to gain weight, add muscle, and transform her body to what she’d always envisioned.

With the help of MacroFactor, Bárbara has gained 27 pounds, gotten stronger, and built a more muscular physique.

Read this case study to learn more about why she chose MacroFactor and her advice for people with similar goals.

We share a lot of informative content on our Instagram and in our groups on Facebook and Reddit throughout the month.

Here are some of our favorites from the past few weeks, in case you missed them.

What We’re Working On

We’re working on an improved experience for the custom food creation workflow. It’ll stay quick, but we’re filling some gaps in the intuition story for European users, while simultaneously making it even more efficient for US users.

This is part of an ongoing story bringing us closer to being able to accept food corrections, and new food submissions from MacroFactor users who are interested in improving our coverage of foods in their country while contributing to OpenFoodFact’s initiative to make label data available to all.
