New and Noteworthy
We are still working behind the scenes on some big updates related to Health Connect and the new food submission pipeline. You can learn more about each of those in the “What we’re working on section” below.
In the meantime, we want to share some new and noteworthy articles from the last few weeks.
In addition, we’re excited to share that the first scientific study using MacroFactor to track nutrition has been published in the Journal of Sports Sciences. The study examined the influence of resistance training proximity to failure on hypertrophy and fatigue, and the research subjects used MacroFactor to track their nutrition and weight during their time participating in the study. You can check out the full text of the study here.
Now, onto the articles…
Tips for Logging Food More Accurately
You don’t need to stress about logging your food with perfect accuracy in order to reach your goals with MacroFactor, and there are even instances where simply estimating your energy intake is perfectly fine (and even recommended). But, if you do want to maximize your food logging accuracy, the tips in this new article by MacroFactor’s new Head of Content Leigh Peele will help you out. Read it here.
How do MacroFactor’s Algorithms Respond to Body Recomposition?
Since MacroFactor doesn’t use day-to-day body composition estimates for program adjustments, some users may wonder how MacroFactor handles periods of body recomposition when a user is simultaneously losing fat and gaining muscle. The algorithms might slightly underestimate your energy expenditure, but the app will still provide appropriate intake recommendations. Read the article here.

In Case You Missed It
We share a lot of informative content on our Instagram and in our groups on Facebook and Reddit throughout the month.
Here are some of our favorites from the past few weeks, in case you missed them.
What We’re Working On
Health Connect
We are working diligently to complete the technical steps necessary for moving our Android integration from the GoogleFit Platform to the Health Connect Platform. (Why? Google has deprecated on-device APIs for the GoogleFit Platform and replaced them with the Health Connect Platform.)
After this change, Android users can expect a new and improved MacroFactor integration with their on-device health and fitness platform. We hope to move over quite soon!
Food submission pipeline
Soon, you’ll be able to submit food corrections and new foods to MacroFactor! We’re very excited for this new feature set that will give each user the power to contribute high-quality food data, improving the database not just for themselves but for the larger MacroFactor community. In fact, submissions will be processed and contributed via a pipeline to OpenFoodFacts, an open source database that’s collecting food information from all around the world.
If you want to be the first to hear when the new food submission pipeline is ready, make sure you’re in our communities on Facebook or Reddit.
