Version 2.0.0 Beta Release Notes

Beta Notice: This release is currently only available on Google Play, in a Beta capacity. This beta is unlike any other beta we have run previously; it has more risks, and less new visual features. Because of the truly foundational nature of this release, this beta is only for the truly adventurous. Source code associated with every page, every action, every piece of text, and every animation you see in the entire app has been altered.

You can find instructions for joining the beta at the end of this message.

Foundational:

  • MacroFactor has been fully re-architected to deliver next level performance
  • Increased the number of high-performance nodes in our globally deployed search cluster from 3 to 5
  • Food search speed has been optimized
  • Barcode scan food lookups are now 10x faster in some regions, and at least 4x faster in all regions
  • All settings pages have been aligned to our new design system
  • Legacy dashboard and food logging workflows have been fully sunset and will no longer be available going forward, completing our year long journey to the new MacroFactor (this does not apply to the legacy food log timeline, which is still available)

New features:

  • Created a new Food Log Focus dashboard widget for users who prefer to log foods directly from their dashboard
  • The dashboard hat element will now also remember the latest widget you swiped to, so you can choose between Nutrition & Targets, Energy Balance, and Food Log Focus for your default experience
  • You can now delete past goals from the Strategy page by swiping on any past goal
  • Food search now allows exact match searches using quotes, such as “fruit salad”

Optimizations & bug fixes:

  • Optimized how MacroFactor leverages the iPhone 14 camera, enabling the barcode scanner to focus from both – short and long distances
  • Custom MacroFactor keyboard will now accept input from hardware keyboards, which is most relevant on tablets and m1/m2 macs
  • Goal completion circle will now display for Manual goals
  • Calorie and protein averages on the nutrition page now respect zero-calorie and fasting days
  • Nutrition streaks now respect zero-calorie fasting days
  • Fixed issue that caused the plate to clear when using the Android back button
  • Recipe Prepare view no longer cuts off the cook time tags for recipes with descriptions
  • Addressed custom foods loophole that enabled creation of two different standard measures, breaking the auto-conversion logic for certain edge cases
  • Recipe images will no longer crop in condensed tile mode
  • Fixed issue that prevented users on iOS from easily tapping the barcode flash toggle
  • Fasting explainer was abridged for better display on smaller devices
  • You can now remove past integrations from new devices, if those integrations are no longer available on your platform
  • Addressed bug that impacted users sharing their recipes offline
  • Other minor bug fixes

Community Note: The release is not yet available via the App Store or non-beta Google Play channel, although some of the benefits listed above already apply to accounts on the latest 1.6.16 release.
