What’s new?
The Expenditure V2 algorithm is here!
Expenditure V2 takes our best-in-class algorithm to the next level.
The new algorithm will pick up on changes to energy expenditure quicker, and will also enhance stability in response to shifts in water weight or shorter-term weight perturbations.
Overall, this new algorithm smooths things out and results in more stable recommendations.
To try it for yourself, go to your Settings by clicking the person icon in the top left of the app. Under Feature Settings, click Expenditure. There, you’ll be able to toggle back and forth between Expenditure V1 and V2. (You’re welcome to stick with V1 if it’s working well for you!)
How to get the newest version of the app:
If you have app updates turned on, you will get the newest version automatically. If you want to manually update the app, you can find instructions for iPhone here and instructions for Android here.
What’s noteworthy?
Greg published a new article on the website this month called The Drawbacks of Using Wearable Devices to Inform Nutrition Targets.
This article breaks down the accuracy (or lack thereof) of wearable devices for estimating energy expenditure, and the complications that arise when trying to predict how exercise will impact your total daily energy expenditure.
Greg also explains why we intentionally decided to not use energy expenditure data from fitness wearables or manually-entered estimates of exercise energy expenditure to inform MacroFactor’s recommendation, and why omitting this feature is actually a strength of MacroFactor’s approach.
What’s next?
We’re making great progress on a beautiful and functional re-design of the main dashboard (your “homepage” of the app). Aside from aesthetic and practical updates, this new design will also enable us to scale the app to new screen sizes in the future (like desktop and tablets!).
As a little MacroFactor Monthly exclusive, here’s a sneak peek…
