New and Noteworthy

New feature: AI-powered photo logging

This month, we rolled out a Beta version of MacroFactor AI. Logging your meals just got a whole lot faster (and smarter).

In this Beta release, MacroFactor AI allows you to capture a meal with a photo and automatically populate your Plate with nutrient complete, editable food entries. It’s designed to help both experienced MFers save time and make food logging more accessible to new users.

AI-powered photo logging

Real foods, real data: Instead of guessing or relying entirely on language models, MacroFactor AI uses real, research-based entries from our food database.

Log by photo: Tap “AI” at the food search and take a picture of your plate. AI will analyze your meal and build an editable log entry.

Add context with text: Use the “Photo & Text” option to describe your meal for better accuracy.

Adjust any entry: Tap any item AI adds to adjust portions, ingredients, or swap entries.

Log restaurant meals with more ease: MacroFactor AI can leverage its knowledge of different cuisines and help you log your meal quickly.

What Are Set Points (and Are They Holding You Back)?

You might have encountered set point theory while reading or discussing the limitations of weight loss or gain. Set point theory is a framework (or, more so, a collection of models) that explains why reaching or maintaining certain body weights can be difficult. It suggests that each person’s body tends to settle within a preferred range of body weight (even more specifically, body fat). While there’s a kernel of truth here, discussions around set points sometimes make it sound like we’re completely at the mercy of our biology, but that’s not quite right either.

In this article, we will break down what set point theories actually say, and how you might be able to work with (or around) them to support your goals.

Should We Supplement With Collagen?

About 10 years ago, the collagen supplement market started to boom, and now you can get everything from collagen coffee to super dose collagen bone broth. The marketing certainly works, and we all know that we have collagen in our bodies, but does eating collagen translate into building collagen? Building muscle? Repairing our skin? This article goes into these questions and gives you a better idea of whether you should consider collagen in your supplement routine.

Case Study: How Dave Dropped Fat and Learned To Stop Waiting

Dave is a 36-year-old who has been lifting on and off since he was 16, always hoping that consistent gym work could make up for a more sporadic approach to nutrition. Over time, though, he realized that without a system to manage both sides of the equation, he’d always be fighting for what he felt was mediocre progress.

“I was at a loss. I knew how to lose weight, but the nuts and bolts of actually doing it had escaped me,” Dave said.

Ditching spreadsheets and rigid plans, Dave set out to hit his goals sustainably and hasn’t looked back.

Check out the full case study here.

Success Story: Ben Wilson

Ben Wilson is a lifter who wanted a better system to track during his bulking and cutting phases.

“From 180 pounds to 158 pounds, with a (sorta) planned 8-lb gain over the Christmas holidays, I finally got a defined six-pack, something I’ve coveted since I was a teenager. MacroFactor coached me through my cutting phase, which finally revealed the abs that I have been hiding from my whole life!”
